Troy Brake found guilty of unrelated crime

March 26, 2009

The lead suspect in a quadruple homicide involving an MSU student was found guilty today in Kent County Circuit Court for an unrelated crime, according to media reports.

Troy Brake, 31, of Grand Rapids, was found guilty of attempted murder, criminal sexual conduct and felony use of firearms in relation to the beating of a prostitute on Oct. 16, 2008 in Grand Rapids, The Grand Rapids Press reported Thursday evening.

Brake is scheduled for sentencing April 21.

Following Brake’s arrest for that crime, weapons were found in his home that matched the gun used to murder MSU student Katherine A. Brown’s boyfriend Jeremy Zimmer; his mother, Sharmaine; and his brother, Tyler. Brown died of blunt force trauma to the head.

The four were found dead in the Zimmers’ Wright Township home on Sept. 29, 2008.

Brake is scheduled to stand trial for the quadruple homicide on May 19 in Ottawa County’s 20th Circuit Court.
