Column about feminism spoke to goals of MSU gender center
(Last updated: 04/23/09 7:35pm)We were delighted to read Kate Jacobson’s column Women’s rights a worldwide issue (SN 4/21). It was an insightful and passionate account of the situation for some Afghani women struggling to stay free of violence in their streets and homes.
We also appreciated Jacobson’s reflection on the relationship between our rights at home and the rights of women in other countries.
Too often citizens in the U.S. are complacent about women’s rights here and take these rights for granted, assuming they can never be taken away.
We would like the readers of The State News to be aware that there is a center on the MSU campus that is dedicated to research, teaching and service/outreach related to women and gender issues both at home and globally: the Center for Gender in Global Context located in 206 International Center. We oversee and support globally focused curriculum, research and out research concerning women and gender issues.
This is MSU’s updated women’s and gender studies program that promotes an understanding of women in a global perspective. Check out our courses, our talks and our faculty.
