The State News caught up with former MSU running back Javon Ringer during Tuesday’s football practice to talk about this weekend’s NFL draft.
Most draft experts project Ringer, who rushed for 1,637 yards and 22 touchdowns last season, as a middle-round pick.
The draft will kick off at 4 p.m. Saturday with the first two rounds, and will conclude with rounds 3-7 starting at 10 a.m. Sunday.
State News What are your emotions heading into this weekend’s NFL draft?
Javon Ringer I’m excited, but I’m not overly excited. I’m really just ready to get it all over with. I’m not nervous one bit. I’m really just ready to be done with it.
SN Have you been hearing from a lot of teams, and what are your impressions from what they’re telling you?
JR I’m hearing from a lot of them, but everything is pretty much the same. I know they’re throwing up a lot of different smoke screens here and there and not letting other teams know who’s interested in who, but I’m just waiting.
SN What’s the first thing you’re going to purchase with your first NFL paycheck?
JR I’m still trying to get my dad a church. I know he still wants a church and I told him that once all this gets situated I want to help him do that, so that’s my main thing. I’m actually content with everything I’ve got now, so I’m not really in a hurry to buy anything.
SN Have you talked to any of your other MSU teammates who are on the verge of getting drafted?
JR I haven’t really talked to them in a little bit. I talked to (Brian) Hoyer most recently; I haven’t seen Otis (Wiley) really since our pro days.
