SAF, Athletics hold Final Four ticket lottery
Tweet
The Student Alumni Foundation and MSU athletics department allotted 79 tickets to the Final Four in Detroit to members of the Izzone student section on Wednesday through a lottery.
Izzone adviser Dan DiMaggio said SAF received the extra 79 tickets from the NCAA on Wednesday. Students were drawn from a pool of 662 eligible Izzone members.
The students whose names were drawn were notified Wednesday evening by Veritix, a third-party company made responsible by the NCAA to handle ticketing.
Izzone members who were eligible for the lottery missed no more than one regular season men’s basketball home game.
Several hundred Izzone members were unable to purchase the tickets Monday because of a faulty link provided by Veritix to SAF. The link was sent in an SAF e-mail to section members for purchasing tickets.
The State News was present for the lottery Wednesday.

Does anyone else think this is still not right regardless of these new 79 tickets. Now just 79 people will be less mad at the situation it still doesn’t comfort the other people who have been snubbed.

I definitely agree with you M pops.. SAF should give up some of their tickets.. The students of the Izzone have been extremely dedicated throughout the season and deserve to go.. Maybe Izzo will see to it that they go?.. That would be awesome

I’m a 4-year member of the Izzone, never missed a game this season & STILL never received the initial email sent out at 5PM notifying students about the lottery. I’m through with the University’s shenanigans. GET IT TOGETHER, PLEASE!

I think that this is more than acceptable. I would have been happy with just an apology at this point. You can’t complain that we are now gonna have 79 more Spartans in there.

I agree with you “student”….Izzo must be furious as to how this was handled. I happen to have a student in the Izzone who was unable to order a ticket because of the computer glitch. What a sad time for him! I feel that SAF handled this in the most unfair way possible! They should have figured it out before it got so out of hand! So sad for the Izzone members who can’t go to support their team!!! Shame on SAF!!!!

I still want to know why it took them so long just to offer tickets in the first place. The NCAA made these student tickets available to all schools in SWEET 16 as early as March 25, according to both Duke and Xavier’s websites. In fact, they both mentioned that Monday was the deadline for students to order there tickets. So, if the NCAA sent out the proper information last week, why did it take SAF until Monday to notify students? They are solely to blame for this debacle.

it is not SAF’s fault that the link didn’t work. I know a couple of SAF members who didn’t even get tickets themselves. They had the same chance as everyone else, why should they give them up. Your just looking for a reason to complain and the link mistake provided you one. Do you think you would have been one of the four hundred to get them anyways? you had the same odds.
Mom? what are you talking about?

everyone could not go anyways. The same number of izzone members will be going regardless of whether the link snubbed some people. It was still random who got them so in effect nothing changed except now you all have a reason to complain.

Still never got the 5pm email. Who will the SAF blame for us not getting the email they were sending???? Glad they had time to answer state news questions.

I never got the first email. I didn’t even know a raffle was being held until I went to check this website. Still never missed a game, and still never had a fair chance to get tickets. Thank you SAF for making the situation even worse. You will have a lot of student alumni who are going to be pretty ticked off at you.
I was promised an email of apoligy that Joe D. promised himself by today. And it never happened, even though he PROMISED me it would. You can’t even trust your own organization. What has MSU come to besides lies, deceit, riots, and hipocracy. I am ashamed I even go to this school right now.

I was one of the ones who has attened every game for 2 years and waited around for hours for a link to “work” and in the end was left empty handed. And then I just read on here that “SAF notified Izzone members by e-mail of the lottery at about 5 p.m. Wednesday, roughly an hour after the lottery was held.” – I never received and e-mail that there was to be/had been such a lottery. I am just tired of all this – none of it was fair. And I get the feeling that the “new” 79 tickets aren’t acutally extras, but part of the original 400 to be given out to “only eligible Izzone members” that weren’t given out on ‘accident’ due to faulty ticketing system telling people that tickets were sold out when they really weren’t. I could be wrong because I just made that conclusion from hearsay. I’m just frustrated and upset that the whole situation wasn’t handled better. On the bright side… Good Luck Spartans!

I never got the email today either. My roommate did though. It was from the ticket office, not the SAF. But he is the only person that I know that did receive that email.
Does anyone know of anyone who actually won the lottery?

The fact is that things went wrong on Monday, and we have not been told one single thing by any involved party. At first you want to keep rumors straight from facts, or avoid placing blame where it isn’t due, but after a while you realize all you have to go off is rumor, and then you are right to blame any and all parties involved for ever letting it get to this point by being silent.

I don’t think this article by the State News meant to cause confusion, but I’m pretty sure SAF only notified those who received tickets through the lottery through email. While that is still kind of shady, I understand why. Why get the hopes of some 600 students up, only to have them fall again? These tickets were donated. I think it’s really rude of some people to say that the SAF should give up their tickets. If it wasn’t for them, you wouldn’t have the newspapers, the newsletters, the pom poms or megaphones, the campout or the Izzone at all. Yes, this situation sucks. But realistically, only 400 students would have been able to get these tickets anyways. There would be a chance that even with everything in order that you may not have received tickets at all.

I don’t think people understand that even if the system had been working properly, the odds were still against them for getting tickets. Yeah, I didn’t get floor seats and I feel a little cheated. I’m paying more for better seats. It’s a bummer that people are reselling the tickets and a bigger drag that people are still complaining.
It’s funny how one of MSU’s shining moments brings out the worst in the school.

Why didn’t they just do something like this in the first place. They could have either emailed the people in the Izzone that met their standards and either had them reply to the email if they were interested in tickets or something like that and then just randomly select them like they did today. Then if they didn’t want those tickets hold another drawing or something like that, why make it a free for all?

Why have we still heard nothing? Should we have to rely on daytime website articles from the state news to have a clue what is going on? Communication is where the SAF won’t escape blame. This won’t end good for them after waiting this long.

‘Spartan’ and ‘Dave’ you say what are the chances of us getting in anyway… Keep in mind that SAF told us that JUST the IZZONE memembers that were ELIGIBLE were going to get a chance at the tickets.. not the entire campus of students. I heard from a friend of mine thats in SAF that only about 900 members were eligible (with 1 missed game or less), so yeah I felt that my chances were kinda good of getting the tickets.
This leads me to a side subject of SAF recording attendaces at games though because I’ve heard of 2 people who have called to check there # of missed games (even though those people attended each game) and were told that one had 3 and pne had 7 missed games that could have been due to transaction errors and there was nothing that they could do about it… and keep in mind those attendances count towards next years eligibility to the lower bowl.. so for some people you may NOT have been marked present to the game and not even know which is not our fault.. I plan on calling the office tomorrow to check mine.

As a fellow Izzoner, I was pretty mad when I found out people who weren’t eligible recieved tickets. Sure, the e-mail sent to us told us that everyone who recieved the tickets was in the Izzone, but I’m not sure I can believe that. It’s a shame that some people are trying to sell the tickets that they recieved before for a profit. In saying that, I think that the Athletic Department did as best they could for actually obtaining 79 extra student tickets. I know that Hollis & Co. were working the phones all day yesterday as I was told so when I went to go visit in frustration. I have tickets now from elsewhere, but it still upsets me that this could not have been set up correctly. I am happy to see that they at least did something about it with the lottery and eligible students. I do not know of anyone personally who was selected in the lottery, but I think it was the fairest, and probably most legal way to correct the situation. The NCAA and SAF should be taking the blame for this. I realize that SAF wasn’t the actual seller of the tickets, but the way they handled it was poor and I know that in the overall picture of things they should be held accountable as I was told they would be handling the student tickets when I inquired about it Monday morning to the ticket office.

Spartan, you are wrong when you say that they were only sending the informative email to those students who won the drawing. I received an email from Dan DiMaggio at around 4:30 telling me to watch for an email from SAF telling exactly how they ran the drawing. That email never came.
