Students might be forced to put their cigarettes out if a proposal approved last week by a state House committee becomes law. The ban would prohibit smoking in workplaces such as restaurants and bars, with the exception of smoke shops and gaming floors in commercial casinos.

I still want to know where the Michigan Licensed Beverage Association comes up with these stats that say that business will be hurt for 2-3 years… I’ve looked and looked, and can only find reports from them and the tabaco industry. Other states like Illinois have done this years ago and have actually had a stronger restraunt and bar enviroment because of it. Those states realized that 80% of the population dosen’t want to be inconvienced by the 20% of smokers out there who make our clothing smell bed, make us not enjoy our dining experience.
