Lansing area receives at least 3 inches of rainfall

May 27, 2009

The National Weather Service reported the Lansing area had received about three inches of rainfall by 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, causing headaches for East Lansing residents and drivers.

The weather service issued a flood advisory for northern Ingham County until 9:30 p.m.

Thunderstorms caused 15 power outages in the Lansing area, said Lansing Board of Water & Light spokesperson Mark Nixon.

DTN Management declined comment and the Community Resource Management Company reported receiving about 25 calls related to flooding at about 7 p.m.

Main roads were quickly affected by the flash flooding. Jamie Mosshart, a kinesiology senior, said the downpour began when he was driving home.

“Cars were tire-deep on Grand River (Avenue) earlier,” Mosshart said. “It was torrential, and it just came out of nowhere.”
