Certainly you realize that by saying “I fear that” she is stating an opinion, and not in any way trying to pass it off as fact, right? I mean, you do realize that, right? Because the rest of your letter seems to represent an intelligent person with a grasp on the English language and basic concepts…

Question-
Well the author clearly recognizes that she was stating an opinion. He refers to it as her opinion in each of the next two sentences. However, an opinion should be based on some fact and not an unmitigated, unsupported fear. The opinion that medical progress may become stagnent if assisted suicide is an option is supported by nothing.

Another thing that she said was, “I fear that if assisted suicide were legalized nationwide, medical innovation would grow stagnant.”

The author of the original article is clearly not a science person. People that go into research do not go into it for the money, since most of them will not make a huge living. They are driven by the desire to discover more knowledge and facts about the way things work. That drive will not disappear just because a “easy way out” is created.
