Russ Zarras, a physics senior, was raised on funk and couldn’t resist the siren song of George Clinton and Parliament-Funkadelic. Lansing resident Kari Hanson saw an opportunity to see her boyfriend, Brice, and children hear music and dance under the stars to Huey Lewis and the News.

Ha, the reason why no one goes to lansing is because there nothing there 98% of the time. Sorry, but the lugnuts park only got me out once. Potters Park and Impression 5 are the other 2%
Thanks for supporting the Common Grounds, at least theres something. To look forward to. ( I still wont go because I hate crowds, but if I didnt I’d go)

Someone really worked hard to write this article. I see alot of time was put into writting it! It brings.. “80,000 to 90,000 people downtown during the course of the week.” That is alot of people and alot of revenue. I like to hear a nband play outside but I also have to admit I am not that crazy about large crowds.
Excellent Article, thank you.

You know, I hate to diss what sounds like a truly awesome festival, but why couldn’t they schedule it so Mr. Clinton could make my funk the p-funk during the freakin’ school year?

Made it to your wonderful event on Saturday to see two of my favorites…the BoDeans and Southside Johnny. Fantastic night – all for $10. Well worth the drive from Muskegon, where a week ago I attended Summer Celebration.

My compliments on a well-run event, a stellar lineup and allowing the Jukes to play along with the fireworks.

$2 beers and $2 Pepsi’s and parking was a breeze.

Looked like lots of people having fun in tough economic times.

Second trip to downtown Lansing for entertainment this summer. Saw the Lugnuts earlier in the year (at a stadium that blows away Fifth-Third Ballpark in Grand Rapids…err make that Comstock Park, MI. You folks did it right. The downtown area has improved immensely from the 1980s, when the only attraction for me was Chili Cheese Dogs at Cupies.
