MSU faculty prepare to discuss budget

By Heather Guenther (Last updated: 09/15/09 9:14pm)

President Lou Anna K. Simon prepared Faculty Council members Tuesday for a budget reduction discussion to be held at next Tuesday’s Academic Council meeting.

Faculty Council and Academic Council represent three of MSU’s governing bodies. The Executive Committee of Academic Council, or ECAC, rounds out MSU’s Academic Governance system.

A 40-slide PowerPoint presentation outlined MSU’s budget and officials’ expectations for the budget-cutting process as each dean considers potential long- and short-term money saving recommendations.

Recommendations from each college must be submitted to Provost Kim Wilcox by Oct. 16.

“What we’re trying to do is in some ways unprecedented here,” Simon told council members. “We’re trying to do this in a bottom-up process.”
