A 77-year-old Troy, Mich., woman suffered minor injuries after falling on a raised portion of sidewalk at about 2:58 p.m. Saturday on the corner of Farm and Shaw lanes, MSU police Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor said.
The woman was walking along the sidewalk when she fell, landing on her hands, knees and face. She complained of pain and tenderness on her face, but there was no sign of injury and she refused transport to the hospital, McGlothian-Taylor said.

I thought you said there were no signs of injury. Yet she suffered injuries?
A more accurate headline would have been “Old woman falls down, is fine”.

Why was the sidewalk not taken into custody for assault?

I think that many people are missing the greater point of the story. The unfortunate woman who suffered injuries is only to humanize and demonstrate the greater issue at hand. The sidewalks here at MSU can be incredibly dangerous, and without constant care, injuries such as these will continue to occur. Here is a link to a video explaining the dangers of leaving sidewalks untended.

Also, I find it horribly disappointing that more people aren’t taking this issue more seriously. Imagine if it was your grandmother that fell and suffered because this university failed to adequately provide funds for the upkeep of their sidewalks. I can personally reflect upon a time when this issue raised its bestial head into my life. My grandmother had just finished cooking Easter brunch, when she decided to venture across the street to borrow some sugar from our neighbor’s the Thomas’s. They possessed a Great Dane named Duke which was largely a pacific animal, with a demeanor not entirely unlike that of the gray squirrel. Yet the dog attacked my grandmother on this holiest of days, grasping her ankles with a brute force unknown to most Great Danes. The beast refused to acquiesce, eventually tearing straight to the bone. The white of the bone could be seen, with much of the flesh and blood torn away. Fortunately my grandmother has precious little blood, so she remained unaware of the incident until I screamed like a little girl in the midst of the most extreme of copulations, then took her to the hospital, where the doctor amputated the leg, which we feasted upon for our annual ceremony celebrating the completion of the 53rd Lunar cycle.
Sidewalk safety is no laughing matter.

I’ve had a run in with one of these so called sidewalks late one dark night. Had I not had significant combat hand to hand training it might have killed me. Thank God I was drunk at the time and have only limited recall of the assualt.

Let me guess, the sidewalk was from Lansing!
