The city of East Lansing will host two separate events this weekend to celebrate the Mexican holiday the Day of the Dead. Day of the Dead, Nov. 1-2, is similar to the Christian holidays All Saints Day and All Souls Day, and is intended to honor the lives of the deceased.
At 5 p.m. Sunday, the All Saints Episcopal Church, 800 Abbot Road, will host a celebration, which will feature food catered by Los Tres Amigos, a mariachi band and traditional Mexican dancers.
The MSU Museum will host “Mictlan in Aztlan” in conjunction with the Cristo Rey Community Center in the museum’s auditorium. The event starts at sunset — about 5:30 p.m. — Sunday, and will have student performances and traditional Day of the Dead food such as pan de muerto, or bread of the dead.
