Senate, Granholm split on budget

The Michigan budget remains unresolved and Senate Majority Leader Mike Bishop, R-Rochester, still is withholding six bills in fear of Gov. Jennifer Granholm’s veto pen.
Despite an hour-long meeting Wednesday afternoon, Granholm and Bishop were unable to resolve differences, Granholm said in a press conference shortly after the two met.
Granholm said she will veto portions of the six bills to restore some funds to the deep cuts made to Michigan Promise Scholarship, Medicaid, revenue sharing and K-12 education.
Michigan lawmakers are working under a deadline extension and must pass the budget by Oct. 31. Legislature failed to balance the state’s $40 billion budget before the Oct. 1 deadline.
