Stadium to change for championships

By Jeff Kanan (Last updated: 10/11/09 9:16pm)

Ford Field will have a new seating configuration for the Frozen Four when the premier college hockey event arrives in Detroit on April 8, 2010.

The NCAA has announced the ice will be placed in the west end zone of the stadium, and will allow this year’s finals to potentially shatter previous attendance records.

More than 36,000 seats are expected to be available. If filled, it would almost double the previous Frozen Four attendance record of 19,432.

Ford Field holds the men’s basketball national championship game attendance record, which was set last season and the record for the largest attendance for a basketball game — the 2003 BasketBowl, in which the MSU men’s basketball team lost to Kentucky.
