Early voter turnout low across campus

By Emily Wilkins (Last updated: 11/04/09 12:32am)

Polling officials said voter turnout at campus precincts was typically low for the East Lansing City Council election Tuesday.

As of 7 p.m., turnout across campus was “low but expected,” said to Christine Van Nada, precinct chair for Shaw Hall’s Precinct 13.

Precinct 1 in Brody Complex had 11 voters, Precinct 13 in Shaw Hall had 6 voters, and Precinct 15 in South Complex had 12 voters before 7 p.m. Voters have until 8 p.m. to cast their ballots.

Precincts 13 and 15 also reported several people showing up to vote who were not registered to vote, or were registered in another precinct.

After polls close, votes will be counted in the East Lansing City Clerk’s office in City Hall, 410 Abbot Road. City Clerk Nicole Evans said the results will be posted at City Hall and on the city’s Web site, www.cityofeastlansing.com.

Low voter turnout, too lazy to get your ballots in? Way to go to the people of East Lansing! I managed to get my vote in from across the country. Thankfully I no longer live in East Lansing and will not be paying taxes to support the decisions of two candidates that are for wasting hundreds or millions of dollars of taxpayer money-public debt- to bail out struggling developers. Good luck E.Lansing with City Center II. Maybe just maybe, you should have taken the time to vote. Enjoy!
