Spartans to face Texas Tech in Alamo Bowl

MSU will be without 8 suspended players

The MSU football team will meet Texas Tech in the Valero Alamo Bowl on Jan. 2, 2010, Athletics Director Mark Hollis announced Sunday night.

It will be MSU’s third straight bowl game. The Spartans played in the 2007 Champs Sports Bowl, losing to Boston College, and the 2009 Capital One Bowl, losing to Georgia. It’s the first time MSU has played in three consecutive bowls since 1995-97.

“It’s an opportunity to go back to our third straight bowl game,” MSU head coach Mark Dantonio said. “It’s something we shot for as we moved into the midpoint of this season.”

The Spartans last appeared in the Alamo Bowl in 2003, a 17-3 loss to Nebraska.

“We’ve been there before and we’re looking forward to going back,” Hollis said.

The Red Raiders, out of the Big 12 Conference, finished the season 8-4 and 5-3 in the Big 12. They finished the season winning 3-of-4 games, including a 41-13 stomping of Oklahoma.

The game will begin at 9 p.m. and will be broadcast by ESPN.

Great Job..however I think this will be our first losing season under coach D!! Come on guys…no more fighting next time. I don’t see us winning with all of the suspensions. I think we are going to get punished on national television. By the way RON MASON…NICK SABAN IS COACHING IN HIS SECOND NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME!!!! HE EVEN HAS A HEISMAN FRONT RUNNER FROM FLINT MICHIGAN!!! Y DIDNT U JUST GIVE HIM HIS MONEY!!! I know its in the past but dang! Its a sickening feeling to watch our old coach on the sideline celebration football glory, while we dine on a 6-6 record

Don’t forget that Bobbie Williams is on Nick Saban’s coaching staff too. What is it with MSU? I know Perles cronies are still around-loserville and we seem to like to keep it that way.

bright side is there’s no pressure on msu to win…they themselves prolly expect to lose, and can use the suspensions as an excuse if they do. it’s texas tech’s game to lose

Texas Tech has such an explosive offense in a conference where everybody has the same thing. The Big 12 is well known for its lack of defense and lots of high scoring games. I am sure that MSU will put on a show even if we don’t win the game. Still, we’re going bowling. I mean, before the wolvies come here, I would like to ask them what did Lloyd Carr did in post season? The wolvies have historically gone to bowl games only to lose them. The thing is that they are so angry because they are not even going to the pizza bowl and MSU is flying to Texas. MSU will have football and basketball post season while the wolvies have…? Also, before they begin talking about the MSU incident, I want to remember them that their coach still sucks (he’s crying), they have an NCAA investigation, they just dismissed a drug dealer from the team, etc. So, Spartans, forget about everything and just enjoy being a Spartan: going to bowl games, MD, MSU basketball, Izzo, Greg Jones, Kalin Lucas, etc. GO GREEN!

Question who were the two running backs that left the team because of a too crowed backfield? Is there a chance they could come back since Winston and Leggettare gone?
