'Unsilent Night' lets music hit streets
Tweet
The march known as Unsilent Night will begin and end through the East Lansing streets from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at (SCENE) Metrospace, 110 Charles St.
Participants should bring boom boxes or any type of device with external sound capabilities.
The route will attempt to cover all the main streets of downtown East Lansing.
The event was created in New York City in 1992 by composer Phil Kline.
The tradition features individuals with boom boxes walking through the night playing whatever they want.

Dear STATE NEWS readers:
the above information regarding the East Lansing edition of Unsilent Night is incorrect. The event is an ambient work composed for performance on an infinite number of boomboxes. It is not people playing whatever they want out of their boomboxes. We would love to have as many people as possible participate in this years event—if you want to join this unique holiday tradition, bring anything you can play your part of the piece on (boombox, laptop, mp3player/speakers, etc.), and be at scene metrospace this Friday night. Meeting time is at 7:00, but the actual parade starts at 8:00 and lasts for about 40 minutes. To download the mp3 you’ll play off your boombox, go to unsilentnight.com. Also, check out our facebook event page below for more info. See you on Friday!
Happy Holidays,
geoff
