MSU football players B.J. Cunningham and Mark Dell pleaded guilty Wednesday to assault and battery stemming from a Nov. 22, 2009, fight in Rather Hall, according to court records.

Cunningham, a sophomore wide receiver, and Dell, a junior wide receiver, pleaded Wednesday in front of Judge David Jordon at East Lansing’s 54-B District Court. A single charge of conspiracy to commit assault and battery was dropped for both players as part of the plea deal.

James Newton, the lawyer for both Cunningham and Dell, declined to comment on the players’ role in the November altercation.

“It would be inappropriate at this time,” Newton said.

Sentencing is scheduled for March 8 for both players.

What do you mean the charges are dropped? They pleaded guilty, and they need to go to jail. I hope they don’t get back on the team.

They’ll be back. They are part of the centerpiece of our new branding. They gotta be in uniform for the April unveiling.

do you honestly think that a university that sells its students out for Nike would even consider not bringing Dell and Cunningham back? Of course they’ll be back. Nike wants them back, and that means they will be back.

Go to jail for what?? Nobody was hurt people fight everyday, they should not get more of a punishment than any good ole country boys would had they gotten into a fight over whatever the reason was. They should not be punished for who they are. No jail time for a simple assault. None, keep the room for real criminals.
