Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero is expected to officially announce candidacy today for the Democratic nomination for the 2010 gubernatorial race.

Bernero will discuss his run for governor at 5:30 p.m. at the Lansing Center, 333 E. Michigan Ave.
However, he said he is running for governor in a post on his Web site, VoteVirg.com.

The post about his candidacy does not appear on the Web site in all Internet browsers.

Bernero’s spokesman did not return phone calls Sunday.

The only official Democratic candidate is state Rep. Alma Wheeler-Smith, D-Salem Township.

Other potential Democratic candidates include House Speaker Andy Dillon, D-Redford Township, MSU Trustee George Perles, former Flint Mayor Don Williamson and Detroit businesswoman Denise Ilitch.
