Schools set to use new garden tools

Michigan schools will be first in the nation to use new virtual gardening tools at MSU’s Indoor 4-H Children’s Garden on Friday.

MSU Extension, or MSUE, partnered with the Michigan Department of Education to give 20 Michigan school administrators the opportunity to learn how to plant a school garden and then harvest the produce for use in the cafeteria.

Funded by Michigan Team Nutrition minigrants, participants will attend an all-day training session at MSU’s Indoor 4-H Children’s Garden.

Schools will have access to a virtual gardening environment created by Circle 1 Network, with gardening and nutrition content provided by MSUE. Each student will select an avatar to navigate the world of gardening and nutrition at www.kidscom.com.
