The St. Patrick’s Day festivities in East Lansing didn’t get too out of control, East Lansing police Capt. Tom Johnstone said Thursday.
The East Lansing police reported 32 arrests on Wednesday, including six drunken driving arrests. Johnstone said the majority of arrests were disorderly conduct, with few reports of minor in possession charges and open intoxicants.
Johnstone said the day was nothing out of the ordinary for most St. Patrick’s Days, and although police were worried the weather might increase activity, it was a relatively uneventful day.
“With yesterday’s weather, we saw a lot more house parties throughout the city,” Johnstone said. “But most of those were really not a problem.”
MSU police Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor said the department only issued three minor in possessions and two operating while intoxicated citations Wednesday. In the early morning hours of Thursday, McGlothian-Taylor said the department issued four operating while intoxicated citations.
Johnstone said the day there were only a few instances where things got out of hand. He said there were two separate incidents of fights breaking out with multiple arrests, but with no major injuries.
“If you consider the number of people that were out yesterday and the weather, most people did the right thing,” Johnstone said. “Everyone just enjoyed the day.”
