Brown's family, Lansing police look for suspect

The family and friends of slain MSU freshman Darren Brown are offering a reward for information regarding his death.
Brown and 23-year-old Owen Goodenow were found dead March 25 in their southwest Lansing home, Lansing police Lt. Noel Garcia said. Police have not disclosed the manner of death and said there are no defined suspects.
Brown’s grandfather, Jesse Woods, said his family is frustrated that nothing has been uncovered about the incident almost a month after Brown’s death. He said the reward is for anyone coming forward with information regarding Brown and Goodenow’s deaths.
On Sunday, Woods and more than 60 of Brown’s family members and friends gathered at Brown’s Lansing residence and walked around the neighborhood saying prayers.
Woods said he hoped publicly coming together might encourage someone to come forward with information regarding Brown’s death.
“Somebody in that neighborhood knows something,” Woods said. “That was the purpose of the march round and round the neighborhood with candles. Somebody there knows something.”
Garcia said detectives continually are working on the case and are taking in tips each day; however, none of the tips have led to any answers.
“Unfortunately, we haven’t had any tips that have come in that have developed a positive suspect yet, but we’re hoping that we keep getting tips that we can follow up on,” Garcia said.
Woods said the family hasn’t been able to have closure with the case and wants answers.
“I’m trying everything I can to (give my family) hope, but it’s almost a month now,” Woods said. “They have no autopsy report; they have no information; they have nothing.”
Both Garcia and Woods said they encourage anyone with information to come forward and contact either the Lansing Police Department at (517) 483-4600 or Crime Stoppers at (517) 483-STOP.
“This was my grandson,” Woods said. “This was a scholar; he was on his way. Something is wrong here. We need answers.”

If the situation was different and Darren was alive and safe and someone else was killed in that house you can bet that the police would have Darren in jail right now until this case was resolved. Just think about it.
