Student leaves laptop, it gets stolen

A 19-year-old female MSU student reported her laptop stolen Monday after she left it unattended at the Main Library, MSU police Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor said.

The student was studying on the third floor of the Main Library. She left her belongings unattended while she went to the bathroom.

When she returned her laptop was stolen but her other belongings were still there, McGlothian-Taylor said.

The laptop was valued at $1,500. The incident is under investigation.

If you are considering leaving nice expensive laptops unattended and free for anyone steal, please first consider giving them to me. I would be very appreciative and maybe even buy you a cup of coffee. A lot more than you would get just leaving it for the taking.

Try to learn a little compassion fellow, we have grieving people here! Next time try to say Dear Dum Dum’s instead, it will be more soothing to the ear. By the way would you like sugar and cream in your coffee, my dear?

Take your belongings with you. Never leave anything of value “unattended”. Oh wait till Jason B. sees this Police Brief, I know that he is going to shake his head, and think when will these people ever learn.

Welcome to the real world people. Why any of you bother writing police briefs about this (or worse, when the reports are about shoes) seems silly, because you’re never getting them back.

As I’ve said before, there is an Msu police precinct in the same building as the Main Library. This leads me to my next statement: Dear Msu Police, it reflects on the police dept.‘s image when all of this is happening right under your noses. Please, attempt to justify to the student body why there are no cameras or incognito-cops catching these deuch-bags in the act.

Just leads me to believe the cops are probably behind some of the thefts. How else is this going on everyday without any action?

Good Point Carcinogen or should I say Carson O Gin, haha! How clever is your name!! BUT truly I think that you’re right! I mean why does this stuff keep happening?! Why aren’t there any cameras? VERY GOOD POINT, that you made: “Please, attempt to justify to the student body why there are no cameras or incognito-cops catching these deuch-bags in the act.” Way to go Carcinogen, I would like some answers myself, hmmm, what is really going on??? It sure makes me wonder. Carcinogen, I would bet ONE Whole Bag of LAY’S Potato Chips that you are on to something here….(oh and by the way, now I know how to spell potato chip correctly, my grammar continues to improve because of the Police Briefs, haha! Interesting FACT…on a Lay’s Potato Chip Bag it doesn’t say “Potato Chips”, it only says Lay’s Classic, isn’t that interseting?)LOL.

See, I don’t even have to say anything now. My fellow statenews readers are taking care of it for me!

Also, I did shake my head and think “when will these people ever learn!”

Also, I love the headline! It’s almost like an implied action/reaction:

“Student leaves laptop, THEREFORE, it gets stolen”

Great work on that one!

YOU are so right Jason B. on the implied action/reaction (leaves/stolen).
“Student leaves laptop, it gets stolen.” WOW!! Imagine THAT!! YOU are a very smart man Jason B. I know that you are a father too. I believe you have a little daughter, I read something you wrote one time about you being a father…I just want to say that maybe when your child/shildren grow up that they can come to MSU. Maybe they can carry on your tradition of guiding STUDENTS in the Police Briefs. The Police Briefs will always NEED someone with your intelligence to guide its student body, at least those Students that are TOO TRUSTING. Thanks again
Jason B.!! We knew that you would shake your head when you read the headline, we have learned a lot from you….hahaha!!

I hate to say it, but this seems to happen way more at MSU than anywhere else. I’m doing my J.D. at Indiana and I see morons leave their laptops unattended for hours and we haven’t had one theft at the law library all year. Why is this happening more at MSU?

Stupid girl! There are signs EVERYWHERE saying not to leave your belongings unattended. This happens all year, every year and I’m amazed that people STILL do this. Yes I do think it is stupid that we live in a world where we have to use caution every minute of our lives but oh well… life goes on. Just because you get up and go to the bathroom, sparty’s, etc. doesn’t mean the person next to you is going to watch your stuff. While you may be nice enough and honest to watch someone’s belongings, it doesn’t always mean everyone else will do the same. Therefore, take five minutes to pack up your stuff and take it with you. If you lose your table, you lose your table… it’s better than losing a $1500 computer, isn’t it?

Unfortunately, she deserved to get her laptop stolen. I have no pity for her and wouldn’t have it for myself if I were in her shoes. It’s about smart decisions and this was far from it. Good luck saving to buy another mac. Maybe this time, you’ll be more responsible.

Come on Melissa

No one deserves to get their lap top stolen, be nice:). TRUST me this person isn’t having a picnic about now. They have to get a new lap top and get one quick! Think about the information that they had stored, that was very much needed to complete a possible Term Paper, or information that such as class notes, which may have been needed to study for an upcoming test, etc. YES she didn’t act wisely and ignored the warning “SIGNS”, but it isn’t as if she deserved to get her laptop stolen. Melissa this is your opportunity to grow in compassion…even though people make poor choices it doesn’t mean that they deserve bad things, to happen to them. IN FACT here is the DEFINTION OF DESERVE, DOES WHAT YOUR SAYING REALLY MATCH UP???

“de·serve   /dɪˈzɜrv/ Show Spelled [dih-zurv] Show IPA verb,-served, -serv·ing.
–verb (used with object)
1.to merit, be qualified for, or have a claim to (reward, assistance, punishment, etc.) because of actions, qualities, or situation: to deserve exile; to deserve charity; a theory that deserves consideration.
–verb (used without object)
2.to be worthy of, qualified for, or have a claim to reward, punishment, recompense, etc.: to reward him as he deserves; an idea deserving of study.

DID she really derserve to be PUNISHED? I don’t think so. Just helping you to think Melissa, this is a great place to grow and a great place to learn some compassion, all while we laugh and help the MSU Student Body to THINK!!!! OKAY?

Yes, let’s add cameras to cover every inch of the library and monitor your every move instead of letting idiots who leave their stuff unattended get what they deserve.

Seems perfectly reasonable to me. Let’s add them to the lockers rooms and every dorm room while we’re at it. never mind using a locker locking your door. I’m sure that the police will only use them in case of real incidents. /sarcasm

Alex Alex Alex…what are we going to do with you? There you go using the “D” word again! “Yes, let’s add cameras to cover every inch of the library and monitor your every move instead of letting idiots who leave their stuff unattended get what they deserve.”

No one deserves to have their things stolen, no one deserves to be harmed or victimized, no one derserves… BUT when we knowingly do something wrong and willfully do it, THEN we deserve the punishment for our action. Tell me Melissa and Alex, what do you deserve? By the Grace of God their go I.

“A petty thief, a teacher and a lawyer die and go to heaven.

When they get there they are stopped by St. Peter, who then says, “Sorry, heaven’s crowding up, so you need to answer a question correctly, or else you can’t get in.”

He looks at the teacher, and asks her: “What was the name of the famous ocean-liner that sank after hitting an iceberg?” “Oh, that’s easy,” the teacher replied, “the Titanic.” So St. Peter let her into heaven.

Next he turned to the petty thief. “How many people died on that ship?” St. Peter asked. “Oooh, that’s tough, but I saw the movie, and it was 1, 500.” St. Peter stepped away and the thief walked into heaven.

Finally, St. Peter turned to the lawyer. He simply said to him: “Name them.”

OKay EVeryone I hope you had a good laugh! YIKES, so much tension here today. It’s enough to make a girl want to eat the whole bag….
