Student Assembly elects 2010-11 leaders

April 23, 2010

The 47th session of ASMSU’s Student Assembly filled its leadership positions Thursday night as assembly members elected Eric Branoff as its chairperson.

Branoff, formerly the vice chairperson for external affairs, was elected Student Assembly chairperson over Chris Schotten, who held the role of vice chairperson for internal affairs during the 46th session.

ASMSU is MSU’s undergraduate student government.

Matt York, who does not represent a college, ran unopposed for vice chairperson for internal affairs. York was formerly chairperson of Programming Board.

Steve Marino, former director of Legal Services, was elected vice chairperson for external affairs over James Madison College representative Igor Shleypak and Schotten.

Victor Draine, who represents the College of Arts and Letters, was elected chairperson of Programming Board. He ran unopposed. Programming Board is responsible for funding activities held by undergraduate student groups that are not a Registered Student Organization, or RSO.

The last election of the night — chairperson of Funding Board — began at 11:36 p.m. and ended at 12:30 a.m. with Leia Hurvitz elected over Mengjun Cao, who represents the Eli Broad College of Business, and Lyman Briggs senior Chris Schuster.

Hurvitz, who does not represent a college, was a member of Funding Board prior to her election. Funding Board can distribute up to $4,500 per academic year to individual RSOs.

Vote totals for the elections were not available Thursday night.
