After an impressive first day for the MSU track and field team at the 2010 NCAA East Regional in Greensboro, N.C., day two Friday also proved to be successful.
Two freshman Spartans, hurdler Keenan Michael and thrower Beth Rohl qualified for the NCAA Championships June 8 in Eugene, Ore.
Michael finished ninth in the 400-meter hurdles, running a career-best time of 50.65 seconds. Meanwhile, Rohl also obtained a personal-best in the hammer throw with a toss of 57.44 meters, good enough for seventh place.
Other Spartans who participated, but did not qualify for nationals were junior Erica Mann in the 100-meter dash, senior pole vaulter Katie Shaw, junior Charelise Davis in the 200-meter dash, and freshman high jumper Kurt Schneider.
In spite of not advance to nationals, every Spartan improved on the position they were seeded at, including Shaw who moved up nine spots to 34th.
Action begins at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in the final day of regional competition.
