On the final day of action at the NCAA East Regional in Greensboro, N.C., four members of the MSU track and field team did well enough to advance to the NCAA Track and Field Championships, starting June 8 in Eugene Ore.
Among the many Spartans to record personal or season-best marks was senior triple jumper Kryon Foster, who jumped a season-best 15.79 meters. His leap was good enough for sixth place and a spot in the championships.
Just one day after tossing a personal-best in the hammer throw to move on to Eugene, freshman Beth Rohl set the school record and advanced in the discus with a throw of 54.48 meters. Rohl finished in fourth place and as the top freshman in the East Region.
Fellow freshman Josh McAlary greatly improved upon his 44th place seeding in the 1,500 meter run when he ran a personal-best time of 3:43.87 and finished fifth to advance to the championships.
In the last event of the day for any MSU athlete, junior Emily MacLeod joined sophomore Becca Buchholtz as the only two Spartans to finish first in their event. MacLeod ran the 5,000 meter run with a time of 16:14.52, beating second place by 1.54 seconds.
MSU will send a total of six student-athletes to Eugene to compete in seven different events, with Rohl participating in the discus and hammer throw.
