Bernero, Snyder agree to debate in October

September 22, 2010

Snyder

Republican gubernatorial candidate and Ann Arbor businessman Rick Snyder and Democratic candidate Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero will participate in a debate at 7 p.m. Oct. 10 in Wixom, a city northwest of Detroit, according to their campaigns.

It will be broadcast on public television stations across the state. The agreement ends about five weeks of debate agreement deadlock between the two. Snyder’s camp called negotiations off Sept. 10, saying Bernero raised unreasonable last-minute demands.

Previously, the pair disagreed on the number of debates to hold, with Bernero insisting on eight and Snyder putting the cap at three.

The pair met one-on-one in Lansing on Wednesday and hashed out the agreement for an hour-long debate. The Center for Michigan will host the event, and editors from The Detroit News and Detroit Free Press will moderate.
