A 21-year-old Adrian, Mich., man was arrested Sunday by East Lansing police for allegedly attacking his ex-girlfriend with a knife. Alexander Newsome was apprehended Sunday on the 1000 block of Daisy Lane and was arraigned Tuesday.

He currently is being held at the Ingham County Jail on a bond of $75,000.

He faces felony charges of one count of first-degree home invasion, two counts of unlawful imprisonment, two counts of assault with intent to do bodily harm less than murder and one count of interfering with communication. His pretrial is set for Oct. 5.

According to a police report, the suspect allegedly was looking for his ex-girlfriend and used force to enter the home. He was carrying a knife at the time of the invasion.

After entering the home, the suspect found his ex-girlfriend with another individual. He then assaulted the two with his knife. Police were at the scene when the suspect attempted to remove his ex-girlfriend from the house.

According to witnesses, more than four police cars showed up to the scene of the crime.

Both victims were taken to Lansing’s Sparrow Hospital and received treatment for non-life threatening injuries. Police have kept the suspect in custody.

According to a court clerk at East Lansing’s 54-B District Court, Newsome asked to be appointed a public defender. One will be assigned at his pretrial. According to police, the suspect still is in jail as of Tuesday.
