After a weekend trip to the West Coast, the No. 7 MSU field hockey team returns undefeated. The Spartans (5-0) challenged California, Pacific and No. 20 Stanford, winning the three games 4-3, 10-0 and 3-2, respectively.
In their first win, California took an early lead at 1-0, but MSU shot back with two goals from senior forward Jantine Steinmetz to give the Spartans the lead.
With the Spartans down 3-2 in the second half, senior midfielder Sabine van den Assem powered a shot past the California goalkeeper to tie the score again at 46:28. With less than two minutes in the game, sophomore midfielder Kristen Henn passed the ball to Jamieson, who scored the game-winning goal.
In their second game of the weekend, the Spartans shut out Pacific with eight different scorers for 10 goals. Henn and sophomore forward Jessica Lindner had two apiece. Other contributors included Steinmetz, van Ierland, van den Assem and senior midfielder Angela Pagura.
The Spartans closed out their weekend beating No. 20 Stanford. After the score remaining tied through most of the game, Henn received a pass from van Ierland and put the ball in the cage with about two minutes remaining for the game winner to break a 2-2 tie and give MSU the victory.
