Man arrested for weapons violation
Tweet
A man initially pulled over on for speeding was arrested for a weapons violation Monday after he was found carrying a double-edged switchblade knife, MSU police Sgt. Paul Kuchek said.
The 21-year-old male, a resident of Southfield, Mich., was stopped near the intersection of Harrison Road and Michigan Avenue, Kuchek said. The four-inch knife was found in his car after the officer who pulled him over performed a search of the vehicle.
The man was arrested and brought into the police station where his case was processed and he was released. Warrants will be sought for a weapons violation, Kuchek said.

He could have a good reason for having that knife. Weapons charges, come on!
It is all because of 911

Isn’t it? Weapons are everywhere, so they think. Your water, your scissors and this knife. IT could be perfectly innocent. But nooooo….

Wow…just wow….F**k you ELPD. That is the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard. I agree “it is all b/c of 911” scissors are generally larger and more dangerous. This is ridiculous I hope he fights it and wins. He should. Weapons charges? wow!!!

Seriously guys, why all the hating on ELPD? Switchblades are seriously illegal in Michigan – like felony illegal. If you want to carry a weapon and you’re 21, get a gun permit. Those are at least legal.

I bought a double-edged switchblade at a county fair hardly 10 years ago. I wasn’t even 18. There are lots of these knives around, this cop is a f***ing douchebag piece of sh*t for messing with this kids future. The only justifiable reason for arresting him is if he had any violent criminal history. The article says nothing of the sort, so I assume the kid had nothing of the sort.
F the ELPD!
remember kiddies

An officer cannot search your car unless there is probable cause or you voluntarily waive your fourth amendment rights. Pulled over for speeding is not a probable cause and does not warrant a search of a vehicle. Just say “I do not consent to a search.” If the officer searches your car anyway, you can’t be charged for anything found in the car.

Give the kid back his knife and tell him to slow down. Lots of boy scouts have knives. You never know when you will find a great piece of wood!!
Stop hating ELPD

It WASN’T even ELPD, it was MSU PD who confiscated the knife and wrote the ticket. And in any case, it’s a crime to be in possession of that type of weapon. If you don’t like it, contact your legislator.
