Quran burning in Florida sends the wrong message to world
Tweet
This Sept. 11, a church in Florida is looking to commemorate the attacks on the U.S. in a unique way: by burning thousands of Qurans.
The church seeks to send a clear message to radical Islam, but is instead propagating a message of hate to all people who would be offended by the burning of a religion’s holy book.
As a moderate Christian, it appalls me to see such an act done in the name of God. However, like Islam, Christianity has extremists that commit acts in clear violation of what we are instructed by God to do.
The association of this church to Christians offends me as much, if not more than, the actual burning of the Quran itself.
Although I must respect the Constitutional rights of this church to spread ignorance, I have to question the ramifications on both religions from such an action.
The goal of the church should never be to polarize and offend, but instead be an outlet for showing peace, love and humility.
Ultimately, it is important to remember that our common enemy is not Islam, nor Christianity, but rather intolerance.

Here’s the contradiction. When 75 percent of the nation wants no mosque at Ground Zero, the Liberals claim the Muslims have freedom of relgion.
However, when this Florida church wants to practice their freedom of speech rights, then it’s wrong.
You can’t pick and choose what parts of the first amendment you’re for…depending upon which side your side is on.
It’s insensitive to build the mosque. Insensitive to burn korans.
However, if the Liberals, socialists and Marxists want freedom of religion in New York City, then they have to live with freedom of speech in Florida!

75 percent? Prove it.

It’s not just librals who say muslims have the right to build a mosque where they want. As a strong conservative I feel that the constutition protects these individuals from religious persacution (including not being able to worship). Same with burning the quran and even flags while we’re on the subject.
Don’t get me wrong, I will say all sorts of nasty things about flag burners (that’s my right) but it is their right to say what they want.
Now if the books were not the property of the church or the fire spread then were are talking different issues.

Ha, you and your strong conservative, hahaha! No way!! I don’t believe you for 1 second that you aren’t a strong liberal, how about that? It is insensitive and cruel to even think about building a mosque on Ground Zero! IF it were being done for a peaceful reason then they would hear the voices and pain of the 911 victim’s families. Ha, what a joke!
As far as the article goes…I agree wholeheartedly with the following statement…“As a moderate Christian, it appalls me to see such an act done in the name of God. However, like Islam, Christianity has extremists that commit acts in clear violation of what we are instructed by God to do.” I am a Christian and I am also very sensitive to others feelings. Last thing I would want to do is to spew out hatred. Love is what I wish to share. That is my Faith, that is what Jesus taught. Period.

Please note that if they are going to Burn Holy Quran it means they are going to burn Christan believes. Because In holy Quran The name of Jesus (Peace be upon him), his Miracle birth and his miracle life and Mary’s life are clearly Mention many times. Please also note that in holy Quran there is a Separate chapter in Holy Quran for Jesus and his miracle LIfe (Chapter name: Maryam, Page No: 305. And Jesus name mentioned in holy Quran 25 times but the name Muhammad 5 times only (Peace be upon them)

Of course, the pastor has no right to burn the Quran! Burning books is illegal in the area where he lives, and the permit he sought from the city has been denied. The pastor does not have the right to commit an illegal act. The Constitution grants the right to an imbecile to be an imbecile, but even an imbecile may not shout ‘fire’ in a crowded theater. He is sending a message on behalf of his church and his religion _ Christianity! The man’s illegal act should be resented and resisted by his co-religionists. It is their goodwill he is squandering.

Okay, I understand everybodies feeling about 9/11, but to insult a Muslim community over people that don’t follow the quran or hadiths and doesn’t practise love, honor, and everything else that come with being muslim. How dare you decide to burn something that you may not understand or just to dam ignorant to respect the beilf of others. I would like to sit with him and anybody else that feel that way, because that’s another form of racism in it’s uglyest form.

Liberals say you have freedom of speech and freedom of religon. The Muslims are building a mosque at 9-11….freedom of relgion……The Florida minister is burning books….freedom of speech.
This according to Liberals. So, what’s the problem Liberals. The minister in Florida is doing what you’re saying. I’ll bet if Muslims were burning bibles in Florida, you’d have no problem. You’d say it was freedom of speech. Bunch of Hypocrites.

Ismail vents, “How dare you burn something that you may not understand…”
Calm down, Ismail, below you blow a gasket.
Ismail, why is Mein Kampf one of the top selling books in the Islamic world? How dare they! LOL.
Ismail, how is it that it’s a criminal act in Iran and Saudi Arabia to carry a Bible? Yet you and your moderate Muslim brothers and sisters go on a death rampage if a carton of Mohammed is published?
Why is it Islam is always demanding we do this or that, while Islam gets away with murder?
I have a dream that one day I will wake up to read an editorial written by a Muslim, say, with a name like Omar, who takes the Muslim world to task for their never-ending barbaric acts instead of blaming the West for their own problems. It’s not a dream I expect to see fulfilled.

I have a hard time caring about this.
Burning books is an action that automatically discredits the person doing it – there’s simply too much historical baggage attached for it to be meaningful. It’s also a bit childish, since burning a book does nothing to the ideas in it.
That said, this must be protected speech. The same people who think this jerk should be allowed to burn the Koran were up in arms when protesters were burning the US flag in this country in the 80’s. Burning the flag is also protected speech.
Certain forms of expression are classified as protected because some people find them distasteful. While we’ve agreed that not all speech is protected, we must be (and are, I think) very cautious about what’s revolting and harmful enough not to be protected. This jerk is either staging this for attention (which I think is most likely) or very clumsily criticizing Islam. In either case, he’s within his rights and we must respect that.
We can’t afford to say that there are some ideas so sacred that they’re beyond criticism. We’re starting to recover from the middle ages – I’d rather not return to them.

Oh, Capt, is it really any more childish to burn a book than it is to throw a pie in a U.S. Senator’s face? Of course not. You liberal tools were all praising a Muslim’s ILLEGAL acts of stalking and committing assault, hailing it as FREEDOM OF SPEECH?! Yet, when an American wishes to exercise free speech by burning a book, you all bend over ass-backwards “Oh no, no free speech, not if it’s an opinion protesting Islam?!” For Christ-sakes, I hope, I PRAY this man burns the Quran. It will make my day. Then, we can all sit on our couches and watch the cable news as they air footage of Muslims carrying out acts of violence to condemn an American for practicing their liberties. But no no, Muslims are never evil nor misguided people. They can do no wrong. BURN THE QURAN!!! Muslim nations burn the US Flag, so burn book for which they dishonor with acts of terror!!!

What’s so bad about burning the Quran? Obviously the sinister Muslims never plan on reading it or living by its word. Otherwise we would have an oxymoron. The Peaceful Muslim. HA.

The pastor in Fl. has only threatened to burn the Koran. The Muslim response was to immediately burn bibles and American flags. Check out AP for some pictures of the burning and protest. It seems that all there is to do in a “muslim” country is to burn, protest, kill, etc.

If you were able to contain your bile long enough to read my comment, you’d have seen that I said Jones is well within his rights to burn the Koran.
I didn’t say anything about some other person throwing a pie at Carl Levin, so I don’t know why you’ve brought that up. It seems pretty random.
For what it’s worth, throwing a pie at somebody is assault (attempted assault, if your aim sucks), not protected speech.
Try to read – I said that it was childish and stupid to burn the Koran, but that it is protected speech. I would say the same thing about burning the American flag, the Bible or the Torah. It’s dumb – you aren’t going to win any arguments this way and you’re only going to piss people off.
At the same time you’ve the right (in general) to piss people off, so long as you don’t hurt them. This is why it’s legal to burn a symbol, but not legal to pie somebody.
I’m only suggesting that Jones act like an adult. If he has a problem with what the Koran teaches, he should try convince people that he’s right – this is how being a grownup works. Your comment tells me that you believe that conservatives have only scorn for this kind of reasonable behavior.
One more thing – you can’t insult me by calling me a liberal – I’m proud to be one. We’re responsible for every positive social change in this country, from universal suffrage to legal birth control.

Universal suffrage is a joke. Women do not deserve the right to vote. Nor do they deserve the right to use birth control, have abortions, or carry on with promiscuous sex. American women have far too many rights and power thanks to progressive idiots. Look where it’s gotten our country. Smack dab in the bottom of the shitter.
