In the Page One story “Download Dischord” (SN, 9/17) inaccurate information was attributed to Gabrielle Morr-Brown. The article stated that Morr-Brown was caught illegally downloading music by MSU and had her Internet service shut off by the university.
It was brought to The State News’ attention and verified via MSU records provided by Morr-Brown that this information was incorrect. That portion of the story was removed last week. The remainder of the story has since been removed from statenews.com. The author of the story in question no longer works at The State News.
The primary mission of The State News is to provide accurate information to our readers. That did not happen in this occasion. Although it’s feasibly impossible for us to independently verify every quote, fact and name in every story, we strive to deal only in accurate information. The State News is using this incident as a time to refocus on providing what our readers value most: the truth.
