MSU group to help build food program

December 7, 2010

MSU’s C.S. Mott Group for Sustainable called Food Systems is one of 10 organizations will help establish a national program, FoodCorps.

The program, which works to help at-risk youth access healthier and more affordable food and train young adults for future careers in agriculture, will begin at the turn of the year.

Federal funding has been allocated for the FoodCorps program to place young leaders in these at-risk communities to help build and care for school gardens and to provide education about nutrition to local students.

MSU’s C.S. Mott Group for Sustainable Food Systems will serve as a host site, aiding the national office in recruiting and choosing members, supporting the work of local FoodCorps affiliates and will help evaluate progress of the program.
