The East Lansing Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred early Saturday morning that killed a 20-year-old man from Detroit, according to a press release from ELPD.

Adrian House, a 20 year old from Detroit, was shot at about 1:15 a.m. this morning in the 1600 block of Abbot Road – which is between Saginaw Highway and Lake Lansing Road. Police said House was not an MSU student and they are unsure why House was in East Lansing.

Police from Bath Township and East Lansing responded to numerous calls about hearing gun shots, the release said. ELPD discovered a vehicle in the road in the 1600 block of Abbot Road and saw people running from the car.

There are currently no suspects.

Officers found House in the car and determined on-scene the cause of death was a result of the gunshot.

Witnesses said other vehicles, including the one the victim was in, were involved in a “confrontation” on the road.

East Lansing police Sgt. Scott Wriggelsworth said police have not determined whether the incident was a drive-by shooting or from where the bullets were shot.

Potential vehicles involved were described as a silver sedan, and a white SUV.

Police found House when they were responding to another incident in the 3600 block of Coleman Road. Officers received calls of alleged gun shots being fired.

Some residents at Crossing Place Apartments, 3636 Coleman Road, said one of the buildings was being shot at early Saturday morning. Several residents reported hearing gun shots, seeing police cars and one resident had her car windows shot out.

History senior Amelia Hoffert said her two of her car windows were destroyed after being shot by an unknown suspect. She said she was in her room when she thought she heard thunder, and was alerted her car had been damaged after her neighbors knocked on her door.

“No one notified me; the office didn’t notify me, the police didn’t notify me,” Hoffert said. “My neighbors had to notify me that my car had been shot by a gun and that our building was also shot.”

Hoffert said along with her car, parts of the building had been damaged.

Another resident of Crossing Place Apartments, English senior Laura Wiley, said she was coming back from a work party. She was told by police when she got to her apartment that she wasn’t allowed to go inside.

“It’s startling, it’s just unexpected,” she said.

Wiley said she knows some students who live in the complex that want to break their lease and don’t feel safe living there. Wiley’s roommate, advertising senior Ashley Lhota, said she is considering finding another place to live.

Lhota said there have been frequent and large parties at the complex, and the size of the gatherings has made her concerned. Lhota’s car, which was next to Hoffert’s, was dented by the impact of bullets. She said when she realized what was going on, she became overwhelmed.

“I realized it was Amelia (Hoffert’s) car and I almost started crying because we’re not involved in these parties and now I have a bullet dent in the side of my car,” she said. “I feel personally violated. I’m afraid.”

Managers of Crossing Place Apartments declined to comment on the incident.

It is not determined whether the incidents are related.
