Graduate student faces animal killing charges

June 27, 2011

MSU graduate student and 24-year-old Andrew David Thompson was arraigned today on charges of five counts of animal killing, a source from the Ingham County Prosecutor’s Office said.

The student allegedly killed five dogs and was investigated by Ingham County Animal Control, the source said.

He faces an additional five charges of animal killing and one count of animal neglect. All the animals he allegedly killed or neglected were dogs, the source said.

He is being held in the Ingham County Jail with bond set at $100,000.

The student was suspended from the College of Osteopathic Medicine June 23 because of the accusations against him, university spokesman Kent Cassella said.

“MSU and the College of Osteopathic Medicine take these allegations very seriously,” Cassella said. “The alleged actions do not reflect the values of MSU or the ethics of the medical profession.”

The pre-trial is scheduled for July 5 and the preliminary examination is scheduled for July 7.
