MSU track and field sophomore Ashley Stacey competed at the 2011 Pan American Junior Championships Saturday, earning the silver medal in the women’s long jump. She posted a 6.13-meter jump and finished as the top American.
Despite fouling her final two jumps, Stacey had strong first and second leaps at 5.62 meters and 5.96 meters, respectively, before hitting her top distance on her third try.
Stacey finished second to Brazil’s Jessica Reis, who stole the gold with a 6.39-meter jump.
During the regular season with MSU, Stacey was the 2011 Big Ten indoor triple jump champion, and she placed 23rd in the long jump at the NCAA Championships on June 10.
