Men's soccer heads to East Coast for two weekend games

August 31, 2011

Following a 1-0 loss against Detroit to start the season, the MSU men’s soccer team travels east for the second consecutive year, opening with a game against a top-10 team.

The Spartans (0-1) take on No. 5 UConn Thursday in Storrs, Conn., before traveling to New Hampshire on Sunday.

The Huskies started the season with a 2-0 win against St. Francis to keep rolling from last year’s 12-2-6 season, including an 8-0-3 home record.

Last season, MSU opened the year with a 4-3 overtime win against then-No. 6 Maryland before losing at Georgetown, 4-0. That opening weekend was a precursor to a 13-7-2 season and Sweet 16 run. The Spartans’ schedule last season also included New Hampshire, a game MSU won 2-0 in East Lansing.
