The camouflage uniforms pay homage to the military. The Spartans will suit up on Nov. 11 in the Quicken Loans Carrier Classic in San Diego.

The MSU men’s basketball team released photos of its special camouflage uniforms for the Nov. 11 Quicken Loans Carrier Classic.

The team will wear home white against No. 1 North Carolina in San Diego.

“U.S.A.” will replace players’ names on the back name-plate above the uniform numbers.

“I think the uniforms are pretty cool,” head coach Tom Izzo said in a release. “They definitely put the spotlight on our military, and that’s what this is for.

“When I spent some time coaching the troops in Kuwait a few years ago, I was fortunate enough to get to wear fatigues twice. That was certainly a thrill for me, and if a player doesn’t get a little more excited wearing this, there’s something wrong.”

The Tar Heels also will wear camouflage uniforms in their classic Carolina Blue.

I hope they upset the Heels, but against such powerful competition, their uniforms might as well say “Washington Generals.” (The stand-in opponents of the Harlem Globetrotters).
