Bring the jars to this year’s holiday parties as decorative and edible gifts for coworkers, family and friends. Layer the ingredients of your favorite cookie, brownie or other recipe to create this one-of-a-kind holiday confection.
Pumpkin cookies make a festive fall dessert, but you can choose to fill your jar with whatever recipe you prefer.
What you’ll need:
Jar
Square of fabric
Ribbon or yarn
Decorative add-ons, such as stickers or patches
In your jar, you’ll want to include the dry ingredients for the pumpkin cookies.
2 1/2 cups of flour
1 teaspoon of baking soda
1 teaspoon of baking powder
1 teaspoon of cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon of nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon of salt
1 1/2 cups of sugar
1/2 cup of crushed pecans
1 tablespoon light brown sugar
Then, create a small tag with the rest of the ingredients:
1/2 cup of softened butter
1 cup pumpkin
1 large egg
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
On the tag, also include the baking instructions:
1. Preheat oven to 350 F. Grease baking sheets.
2. Mix dry ingredients, except for flour. Beat in butter, then pumpkin, egg and vanilla extract until smooth.
3. Gradually beat the flour into the mixture.
4. Place tablespoon-sized balls of dough onto the baking sheet and bake for 15-18 minutes. Enjoy!
To add to your jar, try placing a square of fall-themed fabric on top of the lid. Punch a hole in your instruction tag, thread a piece of ribbon through the hole and tie the ribbon around the fabric on the lid of the jar to hold it in place. Voilà!
Whether you choose to set it out as a fall decoration, put the recipe to the test, or give it as a gift to someone you love, this treat will be sure to bring a few smiles this holiday season.
