22-year-old student found dead in Cedar Village apartment

December 2, 2011

A 22-year-old student was found dead in their Cedar Village apartment this afternoon, according to a press release from the East Lansing Police Department.

Officials did not specify the student’s name or sex, as the next of kin have not yet been notified and the incident is under investigation.

Police officers responded to the apartment complex after receiving a call from management to assist in matters related to the welfare of a resident. The cause of death has not been determined, but foul play is not expected.

This incident marks the third student death in the past few weeks, but police believe the deaths are unrelated.

Officials do not suspect foul play in either of the previous incidents — the deaths of psychology senior Nick Charboneau and social relations and policy and secondary education junior Jessica Hockensmith.

Police believe Charboneau’s death was drug-related.

Autopsy and toxicology reports are pending for both deaths.
