RHA to announce next two performers coming to MSU

Details on a country act and comedian coming to campus are planned to emerge later this week, if the Residence Halls Association, or RHA, finalizes contracts to make the events possible.
Both RHA and ASMSU, MSU’s undergraduate student government, are looking to bring performers to MSU in the next few months, but specific details are yet to be determined.
RHA has contracts in the works for two performances later this semester — one in late March and the other in April — and although they have yet to be finalized, RHA Director of Special Events Rodney James said he hopes to announce the performers by Friday.
He said one show will feature a country performance and the other will be a comedy show.
ASMSU Director of Media Relations Samantha Artley said ASMSU officials also are meeting later this week to discuss whether funding a concert is possible later this semester, depending on artist fees or potential collaborations with other student groups.
ASMSU previously said a spring concert would be unlikely this year because of a lack of funding, but officials now are looking into trying to make it happen if the cost is not too high.
“We’re trying to do something that’s going to draw a large crowd, not a specific crowd,” she said.
Artley said nothing is set in stone and determining artist availability is an ongoing process. There are no specific artists on the potential list for performing, and the determining factor is cost, she said.
“Everyone really wants (a concert) to happen,” Artley said. “Students always look forward to it, and we try really hard to always do so.”
James said RHA hopes to follow up on a successful sold-out performance by Pittsburgh-based rapper Mac Miller last semester and get an equally large attendance at the upcoming shows.
“It’s rare for a show to sell out, period, but we’ve been fortunate to have some good shows over the past couple of years,” he said.
Communication and psychology sophomore Eric Hill said he enjoyed a performance by comedian Aziz Ansari when RHA brought him to campus in 2010.
“(I) have always been impressed that RHA is able to bring in fairly big names like Ansari and Kid Cudi,” he said.
Other previous performers RHA has brought to campus have included Passion Pit, Wale and Big Sean. ASMSU also sponsored a Mike Posner concert in spring 2011.
