Details revealing advertising junior Brandon Carmack’s involvement in multiple fights and a domestic assault have come to light through a police report on the incident, obtained by The State News through the Freedom of Information Act.

Multiple witnesses said in statements Carmack sought out and choked and hit an ex-girlfriend, including several others, at a party during the early hours of Aug. 28.

Many statements in the 50-plus pages of documents also suggest Carmack had been using drugs that night.

One witness told police: “His pupils were very, very small and he was sweating profusely … I know for a fact he does cocaine; I have been at a party with him where he has partaken in cocaine and on numerous occasions have witnessed him smoking copious amounts of marijuana.
“I know what he’s like when he’s high, and he was acting as if he was that night.”

Names, with the exception of Carmack’s, and locations were omitted from the report.

Carmack is charged with one count of filing a false police report, one count of stalking, two counts of assault and battery and one count of domestic assault and battery.

On the night of Aug. 27 into the morning of Aug. 28, documents show Carmack sought his ex-girlfriend by going to her house and eventually finding her at a house party.

Carmack stormed to the house — which police previously said was located in the 600 block of Grand River Avenue — when he saw her standing on the front porch.

Multiple witness statements say he grabbed the female by the neck and shoulders and began yelling at her before several males at the party intervened.

Carmack allegedly began hitting the males and became aggressive before they reacted in self-defense. He allegedly then followed the female into the house, taking the fight inside and putting the female in a headlock.

Witnesses in the report said Carmack quickly changed moods — from angry to remorseful to angry again — and allowed several people to walk him home, but ran back to the house before he reached his destination.

He allegedly stormed back to the house, became violent again and yelled for his ex-girlfriend.

One witness said they saw Carmack stumbling down the street and waited with him until an ambulance and the police showed up.

Carmack told an East Lansing police officer he was assaulted by a hockey player when someone took offense that Carmack was arguing with his girlfriend.

Carmack also told an officer he had not placed his hands on his girlfriend, but only was speaking to her when he got hit from behind.

An officer’s statement says it was “very apparent” Carmack had been assaulted, citing a torn upper lip, swelling in his face and other injuries to his shinbone.
