I'm vegan: Day 4
Today, out of boredom, I logged onto Youtube.com. I had this desperate need to relieve the stresses of the week by watching stand-up from my favorite comedian, Margaret Cho. Frankly, I love her. She is a liberal nutcase like myself, so I can identify with her and laugh hysterically at her jokes and ridicule.
As I was watching her, a video revealed itself to my attention in the related videos area. Since I am vegan this week, I had to click on a video entitled Vegans Joke. Frankly, it’s hilarious, and I would encourage anyone to watch it. I won’t drag it out, but essentially she advises society not to tamper with vegans — we’re hungry and we’re angry.
Although the joke is hilarious, Cho makes one mistake in her joke. I’m really not that hungry right now. If anything, this diet is only suppressing my hunger; the lack of immense sugar and preservatives in my meals is making the benefit of my lunches and dinners last longer. Right now, I have more energy and more concentration than I’ve ever had before. My anger isn’t going to emerge because of my hunger. It will manifest from ignorance and stupidity, stress or the lack of caffeine in the morning. Other than that, I’m a very happy person right now, and I plan to keep it that way. My conscience is clearing, and my ego is slightly elevated because I’m not hurting the dear farm animals and their young.
Aside from looking at Youtube, I spent my morning looking at the comments posted in response to this blog. I would like to thank everyone for their encouragement and support as well as their advice, and because of a comment from a fellow vegan, I now have access to vegan recipes courtesy of VegWeb. This lifestyle is not difficult in the least bit. In fact, it is rather simple, causing me to want to carry on this lifestyle past the duration of this week.
I will be honest with you, though. Right now, I’m wearing a leather belt. This morning as I was getting dressed, I realized that my outfit was not going to look quite as good without a belt and that my pants were going to start sagging. I figure this is an even trade. I look nice today, and those of you who happen to be walking around campus while I am are not going to have to view the type of underwear that I happen to be wearing today. Agree? Although, I can assure you my jeans are vegan, as are my shoes, T-shirt and vest.

I certainly know that veganism seems confusing and difficult at first, but after doing it for a while you begin to wonder why you ever ate meat/animal products in the first place. Thanks for helping to make such a fantastic cause that much more normal. I’ll be interested to hear if you go back to eating meat or not at the end. As always, listen to your body and stick with what works. Good luck!

Hey Nick,
It great to hear that you are feeling so healthy and happy on Day 4! As a fellow vegan and youtuber, I thought you might be interested in the new vegan videos I’ve been making. I started www.veganbreak.com a couple weeks ago in an attempt to make veganism more accessible to the general public and to help make people’s transition to veganism smoother and more fun. Hope you find them helpful!

Hey there, congratulations on how it’s all going! I’m relieved you’re finding it relatively easy, some people get it bad.
Check out veganfitness.net, it’s a great resource for all vegans.

Great blog you got going…I wanted to suggest some great vegan entertainment. There’s a podcast called “Food for Thought” that you simply have to check out.

I listen to a lot of vegan podcasts and this is hands down the best.
