Polo isn’t just for rich, horseback riders anymore. Now, anyone with a bicycle and a fashioned polo mallet can play in a parking lot, reminiscent of baseball games in New York City alleys.

I can’t say I discovered the sport personally, though that would be quite the feat in East Lansing – taking over dorm parking lots to swing a club while cycling toward my opponents. Check out “(Bike) Polo Invasion” on YouTube.com and be amused by the average Joes playing an intense game of the renowned British sport in sneakers and jeans.

To swing at the ball, players fashioned a variety of mallets, from ski poles attached to hollow bamboo, to PVC pipe and part of a golf club. Of course, every intense sport comes with a risk, and chasing after a ball while riding bicycles one-handed is no exception. If one player steers awry into a group, the domino affect unsurprisingly ensues and takes them all down.

That doesn’t seem to bother anyone as the video continues for another five minutes of ‘grueling’ play in the conveniently abandoned parking lot.
