  • 50 Cent not made for the value menu

I’ve seen some ridiculous publicity stunts over the years but, by far, 50 Cent’s latest schemes take the cake. Ever since he lost that bet with Kanye West he’s tried publicity stunt after publicity stunt and it’s starting to get old.

  • West's music needs to be more original

I’ve figured out Kanye West’s songwriting formula: Ego + catchy, well-mixed beats + someone else’s material + more ego/over-the-top showboating.

  • Radiohead's music a worthy obsession

I have an addiction, and their name is Radiohead.

Youth should be involved in theater

I’ll admit it — I’m a theater geek.

I was a drama club member in high school with an iPod loaded up with original Broadway musical recordings. From community theater, to university productions, to Broadway tours (heaven forbid I ever actually see a show on Broadway), I have an unnatural attraction to the art form.

Maybe that’s why I’m confused as to why so few of my peers share any aspect of this interest with me.

I’ve been privileged to attend a number of community theater productions lately from a number of talented companies — Peppermint Creek, Riverwalk Theatre, Lansing Civic Players — and the most unfortunate part of every experience is the audience demographic.

For the most part, the attendance is relatively impressive. The age of the attendees, however, is limited to the elderly.

Don’t get me wrong, I have no vendetta against older folks, but my quarrel is with the young’ns — most of whom probably never gave theater a shot before putting it on their “no thanks” list.

Even more disappointing than the youth deficit in community theater audiences is the one in our own backyard. Please tell me why students don’t even attend MSU productions in which their peers are responsible for creating the magic on the stage.

Regardless of your opinion regarding theater in general, is it not our responsibility as a student body to support one another and to support our university?

Not to mention that, believe it or not, you might actually have a good time.
