Powerful power play
MSU sits atop the CCHA in powerplay percentage, scoring on 15 of 59 chances (25.4 percent) — quite an improvement from last season, when the Spartans went 20-for-182 (11.0 percent) on the year.
Freshman forward Derek Grant said he thinks the change has come as a result of the team throwing more pucks at the net.
“Coach doesn’t want us making 12 passes and getting the perfect shot,” Grant said.
“We are just getting pucks to the net and we’ve scored quite a few goals off rebounds and deflections. That’s our strength right now, just getting pucks through from the points and getting a couple quick passes and then getting a shot off.”
