By: Joseph Terry Posted: 04/22/09 5:57pm

Former MSU standout Kristin Haynie is headed back to Michigan, signing a contract Wednesday with the WNBA’s Detroit Shock.

Haynie, a 5-foot-9 guard, was spectacular at MSU, averaging 9.4 points, 4.7 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.7 steals in her four seasons with the Spartans. During her time at MSU, Haynie led the Spartans to the 2005 National Championship game and still holds the career records for assists and steals. She was the fourth player in Big Ten history to record career numbers of 1,000 points, 500 assists, 500 rebounds and 300 steals.

The Mason native, drafted with the ninth overall pick to the Sacramento Monarchs in the 2005 WNBA draft, has averaged 3.5 points, 1.7 rebounds and 2.0 assists in four seasons with the Monarchs and Atlanta Dream.

I had a huge crush on Kristin Haynie. She was in one of my ISS classes. True story.
