BCS bowl scenarios

Final thoughts: EMU grounded by Ringer
Javon Ringer needs to go all-out for his offensive linemen tonight at East Lansing’s best steakhouse. I’m talking a lean fillet, garlic mashed potatoes, a vegetable medley and a nice glass of wine (make that a root beer for redshirt freshman Joel Foreman).
Ringer and his friends up front dominated today’s home opener against Eastern Michigan by running the ball. And running. And then running some more.
Ringer took a career-high 34 carries for 135 yards and five touchdowns by methodically pounding the Eastern Michigan Eagles’ front seven.
Most impressively, Ringer totaled his 135 yards without a single run for more than 13 yards. The longest run of the game belonged to backup running back Andre Anderson, a redshirt freshman, who broke off a 32-yarder in the fourth quarter.
Today’s game sets a tone that MSU is here to put your beef against their beef. And they expect to win.
Last week, the Spartans tried to set the same tone but were rebuffed by a Cal team with a superior front seven to that of the Eagles. We won’t really know how successful this ground-and-pound system will be until the Spartans hit the meat of the schedule (Ohio State, Michigan, Wisconsin, etc.), but at least we know they have the ability and
personnel to knock a team flat on its butt and score big points.
Next week should be somewhat of a duplication of today’s result, with the Florida Atlantic Owls putting up a little better fight. Make no mistake about it, though: MSU is here to run the ball.
Get ready FAU.
