Big Ten Power Rankings #5
This week’s edition of Big Ten Power Rankings according to football reporters Jacob Carpenter and Cash Kruth (last week’s rankings in parentheses):
Jacob’s rankings:
1. (1) Penn State (9-0 overall, 5-0 Big Ten)
2. (2) Ohio State (7-2, 4-1)
3. (3) MSU (7-2, 4-1)
4. (4) Minnesota (7-1, 3-1)
5. (5) Iowa (5-3, 2-2)
6. (7) Northwestern (6-2, 2-2)
7. (8) Wisconsin (4-4, 1-4)
8. (6) Illinois (4-4, 2-3)
9. (9) Michigan (2-6, 1-3)
10. (11) Indiana (3-5, 1-4)
11. (10) Purdue (2-6, 0-4)
The top five teams remain the same after Penn State’s narrow win over Ohio State and victories for MSU and Minnesota. Wisconsin now has one knee up off the mat with a home win against Illinois, but lost tight end Travis Beckum for the season in the process. Purdue can’t score or stop people from scoring, which is a recipe for the Big Ten basement of the power rankings.
Cash’s rankings:
1. (1) Penn State
2. (2) Ohio State
3. (3) MSU
4. (4) Minnesota
5. (5) Iowa
6. (6) Illinois
7. (7) Northwestern
8. (10) Wisconsin
9. (9) U-M
10. (11) Indiana
11. (8) Purdue
Not a lot has changed, with the top seven teams remaining in their respective slots. Because both Illinois and Northwestern lost, I’m keeping them at six and seven, respectively, because I don’t see anyone else who can jump up. I’m happy Wisconsin finally got a win, just because you never want a struggling team to come into your house too hungry (the Badgers travel to East Lansing this week). Purdue has been just a straight-up disappointment this season, so they come crashing down to the bottom of my power rankings.
