Amp Campbell joins Western Michigan staff
It’s been quite a journey for Amp Campbell.
When Campbell fractured his sixth and seventh vertebrae against Oregon in 1998, football seemed to be over for him.
But not only did he make it back on the field as a player, his football career has continued from the sidelines.
Campbell has been moving up the coaching ranks and on Monday was named cornerbacks coach at Western Michigan.
This is Campbell’s first Division I coaching gig. His most recent job was as secondary coach at Division II Lane College in Tennessee.
Campbell’s application to Western Michigan was boosted when got references from MSU head football coach Mark Dantonio and Alabama’s Nick Saban, who coached Campbell at MSU.
It’s good to see this already heartwarming story continue and how fitting would it be to see Campbell return to East Lansing someday as a coach under Dantonio — Campbell’s former position coach?

Man, great for Amp. I remember watching that game, and it was just awful to see him down there. It was great to see him when he came back and now good to see he’s doing well.
