Salem tabbed as new running backs coach
Brad Salem, a former MSU graduate assistant under George Perles and Nick Saban, has been named the MSU football team’s running backs coach, Mark Dantonio announced Friday.
Salem replaces Dan Enos, who resigned Jan. 12 to become head coach at Central Michigan.
“I’m thrilled to be headed back to Michigan State, especially to work with Mark Dantonio, who has been a positive influence in my life,” Salem said in a press release. “I’m also excited about the opportunity to work with a great coaching staff along with a talented football team. Coach Dantonio and his staff have put together outstanding recruiting classes back to back.”
Salem, 39, comes to MSU after spending the past five seasons as head coach at Augustana College, a Division 2 school in Sioux Falls, S.D. Salem had a 31-16 career record at Augustana, including 8-4 records the past two seasons.
Salem’s resume includes: MSU graduate assistant (1994-95), offensive and recruiting coordinator at Luther College (1997-98) in Decorah, Iowa, South Dakota passing game and recruiting coordinator (1999-2001) and Augustana’s quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator in 2003 and 2004, respectively.
Salem played collegiately at Northern Arizona from 1988-89 before transferring to Augustana, where he played quarterback and wide receiver from 1990-92.
